Me and Other Peoples' Art

Nathan Abels

Lately I've been really into buying prints and screens done by (believe it or not) NOT me. I initially had a house rule that if it went up on the wall, it had to be something I did. It was mostly to motivate me to actually work on "art" instead of just "projects", which is apparently, all I care to work on.

That rule did what it was supposed to though, I worked on art, I put some stuff up, I saw where I was at and would switch work out as the stuff I was producing got better. So it was a good rule at the time.

Now, I'm all about the prints. I love going through blogs and sites and finding new artists and new (affordable) prints. It's fun. It's making my apartment pretty, it's all great. Thing is, I'm starting (just barely starting) to want larger pieces, paintings even. Big Oil Paintings.

We had Dave's self portrait (as seen in the video here) up in our livingroom for a few weeks/months after we finished filming, and initially, we both thought we wouldn't be so into having Dave's giant head in our livingroom. But rather than leave it in the corner to dry I put it up on our wall and we were both surprised how much we loved it there. I still kind of felt like a portrait of someone I know was a little weird to have up on my wall, but the colours worked so well, and the size was so nice, I was really happy to have it temporarily living with us.

But now, now I want one. Maybe two. And maybe eventually I'll be able to afford something grand. For now, I'm going to just keep scouting and loving from afar, the many great artists and artworks there are.

So this might be a little animal heavy, but I'm ok with that:

From Etsy, RozArt.

Nancy Soyer

David Macleod

Lorie Jean Corbus

I trolled the SCAD shop this time around, but I'll definitely hit up some other art schools next round.

Thanks for the interest. I just finished a new body of work that's a little animal-heavy myself:
